Queen for a day

I'm so excited to see our first Queen butterflies emerge yesterday (release #102).  And, then another one this morning to be release #103 this afternoon.

So you can see the difference, here's an earlier released monarch.

The Queen is a cousin to the Monarch and a lot more rare to see where I live.  It's a bit darker in color and has white spots on it's hind wings.

It's much easier to spot the difference in the caterpillar stage.  The Queen (left) has three antennae and the stripes are a bit different.

It may not be as exciting in the "real" world but, for butterfly enthusiast in south Florida, it's a big deal to spot a Queen, much less two Queens!
